The established record

Epstein did more than trade small talk with Thiel. The shown records have him offering, scheduling, and keeping up access to top officials.1 2 3 They do not show that Thiel took part in Epstein's crimes. And they do not show that Thiel's later political spending was tied to Epstein.

Epstein's pitch

In August 2014, Epstein pushed Thiel to meet William Burns. Burns was then Deputy Secretary of State. Epstein played up Burns's role in secret Iran talks and “the most sensitive of missions.” Thiel replied with the dates he would be in New York.1

A later released email header shows Thiel writing straight to Burns on September 30. Epstein was copied.2 The message body is missing from the record. So it proves the channel existed. It does not show what they discussed.

The election-period lunch

Epstein's October 7, 2016 schedule lists a 12:30 p.m. lunch. The guests were Thiel and Vitaly Churkin, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations.3 By then Thiel was a well known Trump supporter. The schedule shows they met. It does not show the topic or any election coordination.

The critical distinction

Access is the finding. A schedule is not a transcript. No shown minutes, recording, or witness account tells us what Thiel, Churkin, or Epstein discussed.

This was after the conviction

The point is not that Epstein once met a tech billionaire. AP reviewed the released emails. It found Thiel among the powerful people Epstein kept courting after he pleaded guilty in 2008.4 The Burns and Churkin records show what that courting could yield. It could yield introductions to state power.

The later political chapter

Federal campaign records show Thiel gave $15 million to Protect Ohio Values PAC in the 2022 cycle. ProPublica pulled these from FEC filings.5 The PAC spent big to support Vance's Senate run. This is a documented funding tie. It is not a theory that Thiel owns every later Vance decision.

It is also not a bridge to Epstein. No shown record ties Epstein to Vance's campaign or to Thiel's donations. These chapters share one page for a simple reason. The same private man went from elite access networks to huge influence over who reaches public office. One chapter did not cause the other.

Established

Epstein's pitch about Burns. The later Thiel to Burns email header. The scheduled Thiel and Churkin lunch. Continued contact after the conviction. And Thiel's $15 million funding of the pro Vance PAC.

Not established

What was said in either diplomatic exchange. Any part by Thiel in Epstein's crimes. A link between Epstein and Vance. A hidden payment between Epstein and Thiel. Or Thiel's control of what Vance did later.
